Can Toni Platera is located on a high vantage point with a clear view of the bay of Mitjorn, we know that the area was inhabited at least dating back to the roman times since a roman coin was found in a field nearby dating back to the roman emperor Antonius Pius.
In Later times it was part of one of the first agricultural communities of the island composed of at least five families that built their farm houses around a hidden cave that was used as refuge in times of barbary pirate raids from north Africa.
In more modern times the island suffered of dry spells and life was harsh so Toni (Antonio) Plate left his spinster Sister Rufina to take care of the property and went to Cuba to find fortune which luckily he did and came back a rich man.
With this new found wealth he built a house for his sister and renovated and enlarged the family house adding several rooms a huge water cistern and a well.
To show off his new status he built a second floor something very rare at the time on the islands Fincas.
In 1969 the property by now in ruins was bought by a Franco-Egyptian artist Martine and with her husband art dealer who restored it and lived the hippy dream between Formentera, Manhattan and Switzerland with their two children.
After she passed away the family decided to open and share this unique place with like minded people proposing a different kind kind of holiday experience.
If you one day come it is not a coincidence, it had to be.
